Painted in 2004, 22.5 by 24 inches. Caleb had myself and his mom chase him around for an hour, pretending to be pirates, before I took the photographs that I would use to paint this portrait. And what fun Caleb is to play with (and tiring)! He's got enough energy for several kids. Fortunately, after all the pirate business was through, Carolyn still had enough energy herself to make jokes with him, bringing about the charming smile that I captured here. It worked so well with Caleb, maybe I should get all of my subjects to play pirates before I paint them. hmmm ...
