Painted in 2009, 8 by 12 inches. My wife and I went out hunting for a nice waterfall in western Massachusetts. We found a pretty nice waterfall, but not anything I wanted to paint. I did however want to paint this tree that I saw between the waterfall and our car. So I did paint it. This is a small painting for me. I've generally felt more comfortable with medium to large sized paintings, but wanted to stretch a bit - though this metaphor sounds silly when I'm talking about downsizing, which is the opposite of a literal stretch. In any case it's always fun to try something new in painting and this piece came out alright. It's an inspiration to try my hand at some more small work. I've also put up a series of photos showing this painting's process, if you want to see them over at my blog.
