Painted in 2008, 20 by 25 inches. This is decidely not an ambitious painting, nor one I labored over long. After tackling several paintings that presented rather big, novel challenges for me, it seemed right to paint something familiar, and simple. Skies are probably my favorite thing to paint, and which come easiest. The one element of surprise in this painting, for myself, is the green car. I tend to find modern cars to be just wholly ugly constructions that stop me from painting a lot of scenes I would find picturesque if there weren't cars blocking it up. But this car really anchors this painting and, perhaps largely due to its small size and generic look, is actually rather cute.
